Good news for lodges and guest farms across Namibia. One Africa Television, the popular Namibian entertainment, news and education channel is now broadcasting 24 hours per day via satellite, and the channel is free, regardless of the number of television sets.

The news line-up includes BBC News in the mornings and throughout the night. Other news broadcasts include Journal News in the early evening and 60 Minutes Africa News at eight PM. Soap operas 7de Laan and Isidingo feature in the evenings, and if your guests don’t allow you the time, you can catch up with the Saturday and Sunday omnibus editions.Furthermore One Africa television is planning to start local news within the next twelve months.

Popular series from further afield are also a part of the attraction. The Oprah Winfrey Show is a regular feature, as are Channel O, Studio 53 and the Gilmore Girls. Movie buffs won’t be disappointed either. One Africa Television flights four movies every week.

Other highlights include Kideo, sports slots including European football, and daily actuality programming on topics such as the arts, motoring and science and technology.

So what’s the catch? Actually there is none. One Africa Television is Namibia’s first commercial and independent free-to-air television station. It funds its broadcasts with advertising, so there is no cost to the viewer.

If you want to receive One Africa Television’s broadcast off satellite, you will need a C-Band Satellite antenna and a standard DBV decoder. These are available from Ellies and any reputable satellite television installer. No monthly subscriber costs or any other hidden costs apply after the installation.

If you are in the vicinity Windhoek, Walvis Bay, Rehoboth, Okahandja you can receive the station with a yellow antenna. If you are in Swakopmund, use a green antenna. In Outjo, use a red antenna. In these towns One Africa has transmitters and no satellite dishes are required, only the prescribed normal TV antennas.
