Team Namibia recently hosted a panel
discussion on the “Importance of branding Namibia” in
the capital. The discussion was hosted in an attempt to create national
debate on this important issue and rally for more Namibians to understand
the concept of “buying local” and the need to support
Team Namibia, its member products and services.
Delivering her views on the topic, Proudly South African, CEO,
Ms Manana Moroka presented a paper on “Developing and implementing
a national branding initiative – The Proudly South African
Experience”. Ms Moroka spoke about the importance of branding
a nation, the benefits a country can derive from it and discussed
some of the challenges the Proudly South African campaign is facing
and tips on how Namibia can deal with the same.
Gideon Shilongo, CEO of the Namibia Tourism Board looked at the
tourism sector as part of a national branding initiative he also
shared research results on how foreign country residents perceive
Namibia as a tourist destination.
The discussion was well attended, more than sixty people from different
sectors of the Namibian economy joined Team Namibia to listen and
appreciate the importance of branding Namibia and forming part of
Team Namibia.
We were extremely happy to see executive leadership from one of
our Founder Sponsors in the form of Mr Sven Thieme who was present
early that morning - we appreciate your personal commitment to the
growth and success of Team Namibia. Also present was well known
business personality, Mr Harald Pupkewitz and the High Commissioner
of the Republic of South Africa, HE Mr Maseko who urged SADC countries
to take a regional approach to branding our region.
Team Namibia extends its gratitude to the Namibia Chamber of Commerce
and Industry, more specifically to Lwaba Jario who assisted the
office with most of the logistics. THANK YOU VERY MUCH LWABA!
We hope that the discussion stirred thoughts for debate on branding
Namibia and the importance of supporting Team Namibia, its member
products and services.
